In April, the “WHELMI,” Weizmann-Helmholtz Lab for Laser Matter Interaction, was inaugurated in a full-day event. Focusing on future applications in cancer radiation therapy, WHELMI unites the leading activities of the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Helmholtz-Zentrum DresdenRossendorf in the field of laser-plasma-based advanced accelerator concepts. The Helmholtz Association sees this joint project as a case study for developing long-term collaborations with renowned international partners in focused fields where advanced basic research meets applications of societal relevance.
Both events took place at the Weizmann Institute of Science.
